How to Find a job in a tough economy

Oct 17, 2010 11:06 PM

First off lets start off with this recent downhill in the economy. We all have been affected some how some way and have either had our hours reduced, pay,or lost our jobs all together and are searching with no luck. Maybe this hasn't happened to you,but a friend or family has been affected? Either way finding a Job in this economy just takes a couple of adjustments and you can be working again in no time. Before we apply for a job we have to make sure our resumes are accurate and complete. Update everything from your email address,to your latest job with accuracy. Employers don't like to be lied to,and they have taken more measure lately into the accuracy of their potential employees resumes with regards to the honesty of the person. It is not worth lying,as a matter of fact your interviewer might just like the fact that you were honest and before he/she hires you will certainly put that into major consideration when making a decision. Second the main reasons why most people can't find jobs are because they don't know who is Hiring. You honestly can't expect to be called back from every application you put in,because the fact is they might not need anyone for that position. The best thing to do is find out who is Hiring and for what, then go in person and talk with the manager(s) and find out if they really do need employees for that particular position and/or others. Talking with them in person helps you greatly because then you put a name and face to that application and you stick out more from the potential hundreds that are applying as well. You never know they might like you and hire you on the spot,so remember instead of filling out application after application make sure you know who is hiring first or you could be wasting a lot of time and get frustrated. (Most online applications range from 30 minutes to 45 at least). Certain websites like indeed.com or simplyhired.com can give you a good understanding of employers that are hiring,so using those would be your best bet when job searching online. Also remember to always dress appropriately, be friendly and courteous, and be confident in yourself most of all.
